When She Roots...

Moolah and Ace are participating in the Summer Reading Program through our library this summer. Moolah has now read 78 towards her goal of 100 books. Ace has listened most of those, plus an additional 46 books towards his goal of 50.

Summer readers got lots of swag, but the biggie was a ticket to the Portland Timbers vs. Vancouver Whitecaps today.

Daddy and Ace already have Timbers sweater vests knit by Mama, which haven't made an appearance here yet:

It was Moolah's turn for her Timbers accessory, and she got a scarf with 100 stripes, one for each book she read to earn her ticket.

We got to the game and sat a bit away from the usual Timbers Army section. Moolah had been practicing her cheers.. PT (clap, clap) FC (clap, clap) and When I Root, I Root for the Timbers and she wanted to get down into the thick of the crowd who were singing, so I took her down. There were several cheers she didn't know, and I told her that if she started singing, people would follow her. She wasn't ready for that yet. At halftime, we returned to the family (and the shade), but then the Army started a conga line that went around their section. Moolah needed to be part of that, so we went down and cheered some more. Soon, the score was 2-1 in Vancouver's favor and the Army decided it was time to conga line over to the Vancouver supporters section. We all danced/marched/ran (if you had short legs) over to the Vancouver section. A few of them high fived us, we cheered for the Timbers, they cheered for the Whitecaps. They taunted us with "At least we have healthcare". We laughed. We scored and the game came to full time at a tie. Stoppage time began and we started to conga back to the Army section, and they started to cheer "At least we all hate Seattle, which both crowds enjoyed. Then the Timbers scored a third goal with seconds to go. We left the stadium hot, tired, and triumphant. All the way home, Moolah practiced a new cheer she learned today.

We're the Timbers Army,
Oh, the Timbers Army,
We're the Timbers Army,
Who are you?

Moolah definitely has her Mama's love for sports fandom & the buzz of the excitement of the crowd. Daddy is already looking for a ticket to take her to a "real" game (this was a reserves match) and grooming her to be an Army Cappo one day soon.

What great fun! Moolah was practicing her Timers cheer when she was here and she and Lil exchanged cheers, Lil cheering for the Timbers and Moolah cheering for the Broncos. I love all that cheerings!

Mama - what great Timbers accessories you made. 100 strips! Moolah looks so happy.

I forgot to add to Ace's reading list when he was here. He read a book to "Gracie", a dog who comes to the library. It was Bob, the builder. He also read Tessy and Tab to the whole family. He "read" every picture and told us what was happening and other things about the pictures. So add a couple books to his list!

Thanks for sharing all these great pictures.

Great picture of Moolah. She does look very happy and what a great idea to do the 100 stripes! Lil' is still doing her Timbers cheer regularly. Someone asked her what sport the Timbers played the other day and she wasn't clear, we meant to come home and look them up online but got busy getting ready for her big day.
Love to all in Strider's family!
